Kathryn Lappegard has been involved in alternative and complementary wellness for over 30 years.  She
began this work as a Licensed Massage (and Reflexology) Therapist in California in the late '70s. At that
time she was also giving inter-disciplinary workshops with associates in psychotherapy and physiology at
the University of California, Santa Barbara, for runners who wanted to improve their performance.  She also
co-developed self-actualization curriculums for programs at the Esalen Institute at Big Sur.  Her day job was
propagating orchids in tissue culture for the largest orchid producer in North America.

Empowering people and working with others to re-connect to the land is the common thread running through
her life.

Since then, Kathryn has lived in: Oklahoma where she was an after-school tutor for the
Kiowa-Commanche-Apache tribal association; Jamaica, where she lived on a sugarcane plantation and
grew organic vegetables and herbs; and in Germany on an Army base with her three children.

She came to Iowa (or rather returned, being born in Ames), in 1990 to finish her undergraduate degree in
Horticulture at Iowa State, and stayed to work at Pioneer Hi-Bred.  She is now a senior level patent agent at
Pioneer writing and prosecuting plant biotechnology and other agricultural patent applications.  She loves to
answer questions about inventing and the patenting process! She is a member of the Iowa Intellectual
Property Law Association.

Kathryn is certified to practice EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and sees clients out of her home in
West Des Moines.  She is passionate about insuring Iowan's access to all forms of healing.  Concern about
the increase in the use of psychotropic drugs of questionable efficacy and safety is a primary motivation for
her.  Kathryn is organizer of the Central Iowa Energy Healers, a past Trees Forever Community Volunteer,
and a former Board member of Youth and Shelter Services.
